The Department of Statistics of the IIS (Deemed to be University) in association with the Department of Economics, Sociology and Geography, organized an educational visit to the Census Office, Jhalana Dungri, Jaipur on 31st October 2023. A total of 30 students along with 2 faculty members attended the same. A lecture along with presentation and videos was delivered in the conference room of the Census office by the officers.
The visit was an exciting opportunity for the students to learn beyond their classrooms and engage with professionals to understand the most important administrative exercise.
The main objective behind the visit was to explain the complex yet the most important process of conducting census in such a large and diverse country like India. The visit gave students a fascinating insight into the workings and dynamics of the Census.
Intending to orient the students on the role and functions of the directorate during the census process Sh. Bishnu Charan Mallick, Director, DCO , Jaipur provided a brief on various aspects of Census counting.
Following this Sh. Avinash Sharma, Deputy Director, DCO, explained the entire process of census and various works done in the Directorate of Census Works like Civil Registration System (CRS), Sample Registration System (SRS), etc. Detailed information about medical certification of cause of death (MCCD) etc. was also provided.
The session culminated with an interaction with the officials, who took upon queries from the students and a group photo.
Overall, the session was interactive and quite informative for the students.
